How Have Apps Changed Our Lives?
Can you imagine a world without smartphones? It shouldn’t be too hard – it was that long ago. Over seven years have passed since that iconic man who favoured turtle neck sweaters, stood on a stage proclaiming that, Apple is going to change the phone. Guess what? He was right!
There is much to be said of how the dawn of smartphone technologies challenged and reshaped our traditions and trends. We’ve become so reliant that even the mere thought of having to look at a street index over punching a few words into our iPhone maps feels like a James Bond mission. From the way we socially interact to the way we gather information, apps have allowed to improve (and somewhat abuse) every aspect of life, be it personal, professional, or just for entertainment sake. Take a look at the main areas that have been changed by apps.
It’s a pretty big rule of thumb, that if you are to survive as a business, you need to keep up with modern technology; a business without a website (or even the second page of Google), may as well not exist. With the advent of apps, the way we communicate, stay on top of news, record, advertise, increase production levels and even create opportunities has been enhanced. You can easily stay on top of the stock market to avoid an early morning surprise, send a last minute email, network with other professionals via the LinkedIn app, create, edit and share documents through Cloud and Dropbox, source new areas of advertising through mobile marketing companies like http://www.brusmedia.com/ , and effectively reduce your overheads and dead time that was originally associated with paper documents.
Think back to the grand year of 2004; do you remember the types of technological communications available? Does Msn Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and the Myspace comment box ring any bells? It’s safe to say we’ve come a long way since the days of dial up internet, low res photos and basic text boxes. Mobile apps have invaluably and dramatically closed the communication gap between two people more than anyone could have expected. Granted, grammatical errors and one tone conversations are on rise, however social engines including Facebook, and Twitter allow us to share (or overshare) our lives, while news apps, RSS feeds, audio chat, video chat, texts enable us to communicate and share information at a heightened rate.
Before apps, venturing into the confines of a shopping mall was like a survival mission; to leave with your sanity intact was a challenging task to say the least. Between the hordes of aggressive shoppers attacking the clothing racks, and the slow family with oversized prams taking much of the walking space, the old get in, get out method was impossible. Shopping apps like eBay, and Amazon have taken over the market, providing a safe place for busy people to address all their shopping needs and usually for a much cheaper price than what you would pay in-store. You don’t even have to leave the house to go to the supermarket, with many grocery apps offering home delivery. It has also given young designers an opportunity to sell their pieces to the wider market without the financial risk of creating a brick and mortar store.
